Setting up my new Ubiquiti UniFi AP-AC-LITE

Since I had some reliability issues with the standard router that comes with my Ziggo router subscription I decided it is time to upgrade. After some research and reading this article. One of the challenge would be the actual installation process. For the setup you need either a ‘Cloud Key’ that runs the controller software called ‘Unify’, or you can install it yourself by installing it on a Raspberry Pi. Since I had a Raspberry Pi laying arround I decided to isntall it myself.

After some research I found UniFiPi, which is an image for your Raspberry Pi, which makes the installation a breeze. Since the package was published 2 months ago, I decided to run an update, which took arround 15 minutes.

If you don’t have a Raspberry Pi, you can also install it on a forever free instance of Google Cloud, which I am also curious to try. You can find a detailed walkthrough here.
